Mathews Main Street has spent more than two decades turning community vision into visible improvements, making the courthouse village safer, more attractive, and more welcoming for residents, visitors, and businesses.
OUR PROJECTS

Main Street “face-lift”

Led a multi-year effort that secured design, funding, and approvals for new sidewalks, gutters, curbs, and landscaping in the village.

Solved chronic walkability and drainage problems while keeping downtown businesses open during construction.

Provided funding for the Phase II Enhancement Project, improving pedestrian walkways, landscaping, and stormwater drainage.

Enhancing the Heart of Mathews

Each spring and summer, the Mathews Main Street Flower Basket Project transforms downtown with vibrant hanging baskets that create a welcoming atmosphere, enhance the historic character of Main Street, and support a thriving business district.

Revitalizing the Courthouse Green

Enhanced the Courthouse Green as a welcoming civic gathering place and vibrant venue for community events, cultural activities, and small-scale commerce.

Holiday Markets and Seasonal Events

Supported and organized holiday markets, extended-hours shopping, and court-green gatherings that draw residents and visitors into downtown.

Reinforced the habit of “going to town” and strengthened ties among merchants, civic groups, and families.

Supports Mathews Farmers Market - April to October with special events in November and December.

Protects and Promotes Historic Character
A team of experts is conducting an extensive review of the buildings and grounds that make up the Mathews Court Green to determine what the greatest needs are. The review was initiated by a committee of Mathews Main Street members and is being paid for with private donations.
